I caused him and other Unofficial Members to be informed that I could not accept the amendment because Military Contribution is imposed by law; because no special taxation had been imposed to or was to be impos- -ed for the service of the lom; and because the question had not been raised when the offer of the gift for which the Bill provided was made to the Imperial Government.
